Why a Full Sungrow System Beats a Mix-and-Match Build

Plenty of systems get assembled from whichever inverter and battery happened to be cheapest that month. It works — until something needs a firmware update, or a warranty claim lands between two manufacturers who each point at the other.

A full Sungrow system removes that problem. The SH-series hybrid inverter, the SBR or SBH battery and the iSolarCloud monitoring platform are engineered as one product family, commissioned in a single visit and covered by one Australian support team — Sungrow has had an Australian office in Sydney since 2012. It is also the volume brand: Sungrow hybrids are the most widely installed residential hybrid inverters in the country, which means our vans carry the parts, our electricians know the commissioning inside out, and there is no waiting on a rare component from overseas.

That is the whole pitch. Not the flashiest platform on the market — the one you are least likely to ever think about again.

What You Actually Get

The Four Parts of a Sungrow Full System

Every ECR Sungrow install is quoted as a complete system — panels, inverter, storage and monitoring — so there are no surprise line items and nothing left for a second contractor to finish.

Tier-1 Solar Panels

Trina Solar as standard — a Tier-1 manufacturer with a 25-year product and performance warranty. Panel count and layout are set by your roof and your actual usage, not a package number.

Sungrow SH Hybrid Inverter

Single-phase SH-RS (3–10 kW) or three-phase SH-RT (5–10 kW). Handles solar, battery charging and backup in one wall-mounted unit, IP65 rated for outdoor mounting.

SBR or SBH Battery

Modular LFP storage that DC-couples straight to the inverter. Start at 6.4 kWh and stack upward — no conversion losses, no second cabinet, no extra app.

iSolarCloud Monitoring

Free for the life of the system. Live solar, battery, grid and household consumption on your phone, plus remote diagnostics so ECR can often resolve an issue without a site visit.

Backup is included in the design, not sold as an extra. The SH-series switches to battery power fast enough that lights, fridge, Wi-Fi and nominated power points simply stay on. On the larger single-phase models a built-in 63 A bypass makes whole-home backup possible where the switchboard and battery size allow it — we confirm that on site before quoting.

Three-Phase & Beyond

Room To Scale, Without Starting Again

Bigger homes and small commercial sites outgrow a single-phase build quickly — ducted air-conditioning, a pool, a workshop, one or two EVs on charge overnight. Sungrow's three-phase range is designed for exactly that: more inverter output, higher-current storage, and batteries that keep stacking as the load grows.

  • Three-phase hybrid inverters sized well past the typical 10 kW household ceiling
  • Modular battery cabinets — add capacity in blocks rather than replacing the system
  • Same iSolarCloud platform and the same warranty structure as the single-phase range
  • ECR handles the network application and switchboard work as part of the install
The Inverter

Sungrow SH-Series Hybrid — Single-Phase vs Three-Phase

Most NSW homes are single-phase and land on the SH-RS. Homes with ducted air-conditioning, a pool or a workshop are often three-phase and suit the SH-RT. We check your switchboard and meter before quoting, so you don't have to guess.

The Battery

SBR or SBH — Which Sungrow Battery Suits Your Home?

Both are lithium iron phosphate, both are modular, both are DC-coupled to the Sungrow inverter and both carry a 10-year warranty to 70% retained capacity. The difference is architecture: the SBR is low-voltage and the everyday choice; the SBH is high-voltage, moves more power, and scales far further.

Why We Recommend It

The Sungrow Advantage

The Parts Are Always There

Sungrow is the most-installed residential hybrid inverter brand in Australia, with a Sydney office operating since 2012. That scale is not a marketing point — it is the reason a replacement component arrives in days rather than months, and the reason almost every solar electrician in NSW can service the system if we ever weren't available.

More Panels On The Same Inverter

The SH-RS accepts up to 200% PV input across as many as four MPP trackers. In practice that means a bigger array on a complex Sydney roof — north, east and west faces tracked independently — without stepping up to a larger, more expensive inverter. More generation in the shoulder hours is exactly what fills a battery.

Backup That Actually Covers The House

Switchover is under 10 milliseconds on the single-phase range — faster than a computer or a modem notices. The SH8.0RS and SH10RS include a 63 A bypass, so where the switchboard and battery capacity allow, backup isn't limited to a token essentials circuit.

Buy What You Need Now, Add Later

Both battery ranges are modular. Start with the capacity your bills justify and add modules as an EV, a pool or a heat pump changes the household load — up to 25.6 kWh on the SBR, or 160 kWh across parallel SBH stacks for larger homes and small commercial sites.

One Warranty, Held By Us

Ten years on the inverter, ten years on the battery, plus ECR's own 10-year workmanship warranty on the installation. Because the whole system is one brand there is no argument about whose fault a fault is — and you call us, not a manufacturer's hotline.

Right Fit

Who a Full Sungrow System Suits

Most Homes

The Everyday Family Home

Single-phase, 6.6–10 kW of panels, an SBR sized to cover the evening peak and overnight base load. The configuration we quote most often, and the one with the shortest payback.

High Usage

Ducted Air-Con & Pool Homes

Three-phase supply, heavy summer load and a real need for capacity. SH-RT plus an SBH stack handles the draw without the battery flattening by 9pm.

EV Owners

Charging a Car At Home

An EV roughly doubles a household's electricity use. Oversized solar plus a larger SBH means the car charges from your own generation instead of your retailer's peak rate.

Blackout Prone

Outer Suburbs & Semi-Rural

Central Coast, Hunter and bushfire-corridor properties where outages are a fact of life. Sub-10 ms switchover and a 63 A bypass keep the house running, not just a power point.

Retrofit

Existing Solar, No Battery

Older string inverter, panels still fine. Swapping to a Sungrow hybrid and adding an SBR usually beats bolting on an AC-coupled battery — one system, one app, one warranty.

Small Business

Shops, Clinics & Workshops

Daytime load that lines up beautifully with solar, plus storage to trim the demand charge. Parallel SBH stacks scale to 160 kWh as the site grows.

The Optimal Package

Sungrow + Trina — Our Recommended Combinations

We pair Sungrow with Trina Solar panels: a Tier-1 module with a 25-year product and performance warranty, matched to the inverter so the array and the battery are sized as one system rather than two purchases.

Indicative configurations only — final sizing comes from your actual bills, roof orientation and network limits, and is confirmed in writing before anything is ordered.

Rebates: battery storage attracts the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount, and the panels attract federal STCs. Both are applied as an up-front reduction on your ECR quote — you never pay the full amount and claim it back. We confirm the current value for your system size when we quote.

Areas We Service

Sungrow Installer Sydney, Central Coast, Newcastle & the Hunter

ECR installs with our own licensed electricians — no subcontractors — from our base at Somersby. Where you are changes more than the drive: your network operator sets the export limit, and the local housing stock decides how much switchboard work a battery needs. That is priced into the quote before you see it, not discovered on install day.

Ausgrid

Sydney

The whole basin, across two network operators — Ausgrid through the north, east and inner suburbs, and Endeavour Energy across the west and south-west including Penrith, Blacktown, Liverpool, Campbelltown, Camden and Oran Park. Export limits and approval conditions differ between the two, and we handle that application either way.

Home Turf

Central Coast

Gosford, Wyong, Terrigal, Erina, Woy Woy, Somersby and the surrounding coast. Salt air is the real design constraint here — marine-grade fixings and careful enclosure placement matter, and older Coast housing stock often needs the switchboard brought up to standard before a battery goes on.

Sungrow installation on the Central Coast →

Ausgrid

Newcastle & Lake Macquarie

Two very different jobs in one city. Federation homes through Merewether, Hamilton and Cooks Hill have brittle terracotta that needs a careful roofer's touch; the newer Colorbond estates around Cardiff, Glendale and Warners Bay are straightforward on the roof but often constrained at the switchboard.

Sungrow installation in Newcastle →

Three-Phase Country

Maitland & the Hunter Valley

Bigger blocks, roughly double the consumption of a coastal home, three-phase supply far more common, and genuine outage exposure on rural feeders. It is the region where a larger SBH stack and real whole-home backup stop being a luxury and start being the reason people call.

Sungrow FAQs

Your Questions, Answered

Both — and the popularity is the point. Sungrow is one of the world's largest inverter manufacturers and the most widely installed residential hybrid brand in Australia, with a Sydney office since 2012. Scale means local stock, local warranty administration and installers everywhere who know the product. The hardware is genuinely good; the support network is what makes it the safe choice.

If you have a single-phase home, 6–10 kW of solar and a normal evening peak, the SBR is almost always the right call and the better value. If you're three-phase, run ducted air-conditioning, charge an EV at home or want serious whole-home backup, the SBH moves more power and scales further — up to 40 kWh in one stack and 160 kWh across four. We size it from your bills, not a rule of thumb.

Yes. The single-phase SH-RS switches over in under 10 milliseconds and the three-phase SH-RT in under 20 — quick enough that lights, fridge, Wi-Fi and computers don't notice. On the SH8.0RS and SH10RS a built-in 63 A bypass makes full-home backup possible where the switchboard and battery capacity support it; otherwise we wire nominated essential circuits at installation and walk you through exactly what stays on.

Only if your existing inverter is a Sungrow SH-series hybrid — SBR and SBH batteries don't work with SG-series string inverters or other brands. The usual path for an older system is replacing the inverter with a Sungrow hybrid and keeping your panels, which gets you storage, backup and modern monitoring in a single visit. We confirm what's worth keeping after looking at the existing system.

More than you might expect. The SH-RS accepts up to 200% PV input across as many as four MPP trackers, so a 10 kW inverter can carry a substantially larger array spread across different roof faces. That extra morning and afternoon generation is what fills a battery — it is usually better value than upsizing the inverter itself. Network export limits still apply, and we handle that application for you.

Yes — both ranges are modular. The SBR adds 3.2 kWh modules up to 25.6 kWh; the SBH adds 5 kWh modules up to 40 kWh per stack, with up to four stacks in parallel. Adding modules later is straightforward, though it is worth telling us at quote stage if you expect an EV or a pool, so the inverter and cabling are sized for where you're heading.

Ten years on the inverter and ten years on the battery to 70% retained capacity, both administered locally by Sungrow Australia, plus ECR's own 10-year workmanship warranty on the installation. Because we hold your warranty, you call us if anything ever needs attention — and iSolarCloud lets us diagnose most issues remotely before anyone drives out.

Yes. ECR's own licensed electricians cover Sydney, the Central Coast, Newcastle and the Hunter. We don't subcontract installations — the team that quotes your system is the team that installs and services it.
